This section makes frequent use of data contained in the Technical Requirements.

All relevant sections of the Technical Requirements Data collection should be completed or known before commencing with the steps in this section.

Introduction

There are two parts to the configuration, the first being the server(s) under management, and the second being the supporting configuration on the web portal. Both are covered here.

AAM Configuration

Adding a new AAM Login

The VSM Probe requires access to Avaya Aura Messaging with the appropriate user rights. This can be achieved by creating a new user within Avaya Aura Messaging with user profile 18, or a read-only account with same level of access.

Browse to the Avaya Aura Messaging and login. Click on Security > Administrator Accounts and select Add Login and Privileged Administrator and click submit:


Enter details as per the table below:

Configuring SNMP

SNMP traps are used to capture alarms raised by Avaya Aura Messaging, and to allow VSM to query certain information.

Click on SNMP > Agent Status. To make changes to SNMP configuration the Master Agent must first be stopped by clicking the ‘Stop Master Agent’ button:



The VSM collector must then be added as a destination for SNMP traps. For this reason the VSM collector must be assigned a fixed IP address. Click on SNMP > FP Traps> Add/Change. Enter the details in the SNMP Version 3 option and click the Submit button:

After adding the SNMP destination, it should be listed on the FP Traps page.

Add SNMP Access

To add SNMP Access, you must administer an SNMP Agent with the following steps:

  1. On the Administration menu, click Server (Maintenance) > SNMP > Agent Status.
  2. Check the status of Master Agent. Master Agent status must be in Down state before you make changes to the Agent Status webpage. If Master Agent status is Down, see step 4.
  3. If Master Agent status is UP, perform the following:
    1. On the Administration menu, click Server (Maintenance) > SNMP > Agent Status.
    2. On the Agent Status webpage, click Stop Master Agent.
    3. After Master Agent status is Down, on the Administration menu, click Server (Maintenance) > SNMP > Agent Status.
  4. Enter the appropriate information in the fields.
  5. To save the changes, click Submit.
  6. After adding the SNMP Agent, you must restart Master Agent.
    1. To start Master Agent, on the Administration menu, click Server (Maintenance) > SNMP > Agent Status.
    2. Click Start Master Agent.
You can use the Agent Status webpage to change the state of Master Agent and to check the state of the subagents. If the subagent is connected to Master Agent, the status of each subagent is UP. If the status of Master Agent is Down and the status of the subagent is UP, the subagent is not connected to Master Agent.

Web Portal Configuration

Add AAM

Login to the VSM web portal using your credentials and password.

For your customer, select Service Desk > Equipment Locations. Right-click on the Equipment Location (Collector) that will serve this particular AAM and select ‘Manage Equipment’.

At the bottom of the ‘Manage Equipment’ page click on the ‘Add Equipment’ Button.

A form will open which you can populate with the equipment details as per the table below. 

Select the Vendor ‘Avaya’ and Product ‘Aura Messaging’.


 

If you are adding more than one piece of the same equipment type check the ‘Add another’ box at the bottom of the form and the bulk of the configuration will be carried over for the next item.

Complete the Equipment tab and then click on the ‘SNMP Query’ tab.

Click on the down arrow, and select the SNMP version you wish VSM to use for querying the AAM:

Once all fields are populated Click on the Test Access button. This will test that VSM can connect to the AAM using the settings you have entered:


Both SSH and SNMP should return success. If not, trouble-shoot the configuration.

The SSH test ensures the VSM collector can connect to, and login using the account configured.

The SNMP test ensures an SNMP query can be run.


Once testing is successful, click Add.
