Ribbon Edge SBC (SWe Lite,1000 , 2000)

Ribbon provides both hardware and software-based solutions. Ribbon Edge Session Border Controllers can act as full-fledged service demarcation devices for enterprise edge networks and the existing UC / CC application. They can provide analogue or digital ports to simplify migration of legacy PBXs, call centers and analogue devices.

Ribbon offers software only solutions that can be deployed on virtualized hardware or the public cloud (in Azure and AWS).

SBC SWe Lite1,000Virtualized & Public Cloud
SBC 1000192Hardware
SBC 2000600Hardware.

Ribbon Edge SBCs provide variety of functions including:

  • Security - Topology hiding, encryption, protection against Denial of Service attacks
  • Multivendor interoperability - Interoperability with leading PBXs, cloud UC services, SIP endpoints and SIP trunk providers
  • Microsoft Teams - Certified for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing
  • Session routing - Advanced call routing features such as Active Directory/LDAP server routing integration and onboard call forking

VSM and Ribbon SBC Edge System Health

VSM collects and stores configuration, capacity and availability information relating to Ribbon Edge SBC resources. This data is mined at all levels in the stack. It stores this information for reporting, trending and analytical purposes. VSM specifically targets critical areas in Ribbon SBCs that indicate business-impacting issues.

If any changes are made to the architecture, the dashboard will automatically reconfigure itself to measure and display critical capacity data based on the current configuration, without human  intervention.

Items monitored include not only the central processor, but also essential aspects of the configuration which have their own specific requirements and capacity limitations. This information is presented by way of several different dashboards within Service Desk.
The purpose of the dashboards is three-fold:

  • To enable IT teams to proactively identify potential issues and prevent outages
  • To provide real time view of overall Ribbon SBC Edge health at glance without having to rely on end-user reporting problems
  • In the event of a service-impacting incident to significantly reduce the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and therefore to reduce the impact on business operations by quickly identifying the root cause

Settings

Choose which panels you wish to see for specific dashlets by selecting Layout within the dashboard settings.

VSM also display detailed information about Version this includes (Model , Build Number , ID and Serial Number)

Network Connectivity

Network connectivity shows the response time based on a ping requests sent to the equipment.  Failed ping tests will result in an alarm being raised. Criteria defining ping failure is flexible, and is set in Network Connectivity configuration settings

Network Interface

Network Interface shows the number of interfaces configured and their status, the drill down shows detailed information about the interface including Mac address, Speed, Duplex ,Interface Networking Mode and Gigabit Timing Mode.

The color will change to amber if admin state is down, and red if the operational state is down and an alert will be generated.

Signaling Group

Signaling groups allow telephony channels to be grouped together for the purposes of routing and shared configuration. They are the entity to which calls are routed, as well as the location from which Call Routes are selected. They are also the location from which Tone Tables and Action Sets are selected.

VSM monitors the following state for the Signaling Group:

  • Admin State  -  Administrative state of the Signaling Group
  • Operational State  - Operational state of the Signaling Group
  • Federated FQDN : Configured Federated  FQDN
  • Channel In Use :  The number of used channels

Alerts will be highlighted as red and amber based on the impact:

Red - If operational state is down

Amber  - If only admin state is down

License

VSM Monitors the license utilization and displays used vs total number of the licenses for the following features:

  • SIP Signaling Sessions
  • EnhancedMediaSessionswithTranscodingCh
  • SIP Registration

Alerts will be highlighted as red and amber based on license consumption:

Red - If used license exceed 90% of the current license

Amber - If used license exceeds 80% of the current license

DSP

VSM monitors the DSP Cards  installed and their status , it displays the number of configured DSP Cards and their status in the main dashboard.

DSP Drill Down display detailed information about the DSP Module this includes:

  • Availability:  Identifies whether a DSP Module is installed in this slot.
  • Module Type : Identifies the type of Installed Module
  • Channel In use :  Indicates the number of channels currently in use on the DSP Module.
  • CPU Usage : Indicates the current CPU level for this DSP
  • Service Status : Identify if the Module is ready for signal processing or not
  • MoH File Status : Indicates the status of the Music on Hold File

Global Call Counters

VSM monitors the number of different call counters s across the system and per signaling group

  • Call Counters
    • Call Attempts
    • Succeeded Calls
    • Failed Calls
    • Currently UP Calls
    • Currently Transient Calls
    • Internal Glares
    • External Glares
    • Abandoned No Trunk Calls
    • Unanswered Calls

Global Call Counters Drill Down will show the call counters per signaling group
