Overview

VSM has the ability to perform a full Network scan using SNMP queries and present this in tabular and network topography diagram.

The data is collected via configured switches which do recursive LLDP queries to all equipment on the network, which is then used to build the topology map.

Configuration

Prerequisites:

  • SNMP details of at least one central networking switch with LLDP enabled
  • LLDP enabled on all endpoints.  For windows devices, this is enabled by default.

Set up

To configure the Network Topology - from the customers landing page navigate to Service Desk > More > Equipment Locations  - Classic.

Right Click the location you are wanting to configure the network topology against > Manage Services.

From this page, we navigate via the ... > Network > Network Topology Configuration

Select - 'Create Network' this will bring you to the configuration page.

Each distinct network requires a configuration entry, with the SNMP details for at least one switch. Once configured click 'Submit'

Results

On save, results will start showing up on the Configuration → Network Topology page within 24 hours.
