VSM dashboards run the same diagnostic commands experienced engineers run when they are identifying problems. These commands are run on a minute to minute basis, and the results are displayed on a dashboard, color-coded to reflect solution health. Benefits include:

  • Provides a real time view of AES health at a glance
  • Significantly reduces time to repair by pin-pointing the underlying cause of issues – the item(s) on the dashboard that are red are the most likely cause of an issue or impending issue

Items monitored include not only server processor, software services and licensing, but also essential aspects of the configuration which have their own specific requirements and capacity limitations. This information is presented by way of a dashboard within Service Desk.

Server Infrastructure

Basic server performance such as processor, memory and disk utilization is displayed. Faults such as memory leaks are easily identified. The dashboard also displays the time since the last reboot, so if there is an IT policy applied to this preventative action, the status is easily seen.

AES Software Services

AES software services can stop, causing an outage. Every minute the dashboard polls the software services at an application level to ensure they are responsive.

License Status

Many outages are caused by oversubscription of licenses. The dashboard shows both the purchased license and acquired license count.

TSDI Buffer Saturation

In busy or fault situations CTI traffic on the AES can exceed recommended levels. This causes CTI applications to lose synchronization with the telephony state within Communication Manager and unexpected behavior will often result. One indicator of this situation is where the TSDI buffer flow exceeds the maximum flow rate.

ACM to AES Connectivity Status

Configuration Manager constantly looks at the architecture and how it is set up to identify the current connection status as well as critical capacity constraints that apply to that configuration. Another indicator of this situation is where the ACM to AES connection message rate exceeds certain values.
