Generic Devices
Web Portal Setup
Generic Devices are setup in VSM to enable Access Concentrator and/or to add a friendly name and default site to alarms received via SNMP Trap.
Info |
---|
When using Access Concentrator only, all equipment must be installed as Generic Devices. Applications like ACM, SM, SBC etc. will incur extra charges if configured as such. When adding ACM as a Generic Device you need to add server A, server B, each ESS and LSP individually. |
To add a generic device to VSM select the customer you wish to add the generic device to then then navigate to Service Desk> Equipment Locations. Right-click on the Equipment Location (Appliance) that will serve this particular UC Server and select ‘Manage Equipment’
...
A form will open which you can populate with the equipment details as per table 1.
Select the Vendor ‘Generic Devices’.

If you are adding more than one piece of the same equipment type check the ‘Add another’ box at the bottom of the form and the bulk of the configuration will be carried over for the next item.

Site ID information in the ‘Site’ field will advise your NOC staff of the site where the Generic Device is physically located. This is particularly helpful when the customer has multiple sites. |

The minimum required information is a Name and IP address or Hostname, however you can add an SNMP version and community string if you wish VSM to query this device for basic information.
To do this, select the ‘SNMP’ tab. Click on the down arrow and select the SNMP version you wish VSM to use for querying the Generic Device:
SNMP V1 or V2
