Introduction
The IPSI bandwidth report measures amount of bandwidth used between the IPSI and the PCD (Processor). This network is often referred to as the Control Network. The IPSI is effectively a NIC for the Port Network.
The data flowing over this network is used for control purposes. Even though the bandwidth consumed is relatively small, it is very important that QoS policy is applied.
If the Control Network does not meet Avaya’s recommended performance standards, parts or all of the solution can restart, causing major business interruption.
Uses
Use this report:
- To identify over an extended time period the actual bandwidth requirement of the Control Network.
- To correctly size the real-time queue on the data network.
- As an indicator of potential problems when there is a sudden change.
- To detect and resolve issues before they become business-impacting.
- For Root Cause Analysis(RCA) to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
Example
In this example, Port Network 1 is using about 9 Kbits/Sec on the Downlink and 3 Kbits/Sec on the Uplink. Control Network A is active.
The bandwidth used is directly reflective of how busy the Port Network is. A sudden change away from normal is indicative of a potential issue.
