Introduction
The C-LAN Throughput report tracks each C-LAN IP Interface over a selected period of time. It measures datagrams transmitted and received via the NIC for the selected C-LAN.
This report is useful in identifying traffic trends and establishing bench marks on what constitutes normal behavior for each interface.
Sudden changes away from normal behavior are indicative of otherwise unseen issues. For example, problems occurring within down-stream applications often represent complete outages, and this type of problem will not necessarily produce an alarm.
Outages like these can be quickly identified when this report is used in conjunction with Availability Management.
Uses
- Identify, over an extended time period, the IP activity on a board by board basis.
- Detect and raise alarms at an application level, rather than infrastructure level.
- An indicator of other potential problems.
Example
The IP traffic on this important C-LAN interface is consistently in the range of 7000 to12000 datagrams per hour and closely follows contact center traffic levels.
An application issue triggered a sudden change to the IP traffic. By setting a high and low water mark, Availability Manager can be used to try and resolve issues when traffic patterns step outside of that normal range.
If Availability Manager cannot resolve the issue, then IT support staff are notified by SMS or email, significantly reducing response times.
