Measures Tone Receiver usage by unit over a selected period of time. Measurements include:

  • CC-CPTR
  • CC-MFCR
  • CC-TTR
  • DTMF
  • GPTD

Identifying traffic trends and the associated impact on Tone Receiver capacity can mitigate otherwise unseen issues. A typical example is the Collect Digits step within a vector script. This is when the caller is played an announcement prompting them to enter digits to further qualify their reason for calling. If there are no available Tone Receivers available due to load, then the callers input will not be collected and will lead to unexpected behavior in the call flow. There is no SNMP alarm generated for this condition, so often goes undetected unless the callers complain.

Example 1

In this example there has been an unusably high call on Tone Receiver resources for a two hour period. Engineers then ran the Tone Receiver Capacity report over an extended period of time to determine if this was a regular occurrence caused by normal variation in traffic and also checked the Virsae event log to determine if the Tone Receiver resources were exhausted, or there was sufficient capacity. The below shows that there was customer impact at this time, as vector processing was clearly impacted.
